Tetracyclic cpds. of formula (I) are new. (where, R1 = H, CN, F, Cl, CF3, or 1-20C alkyl which may have (a) one or more CH2 gps. replaced by O, S, CO, CH=CH, ethynylene, cyclopropylene, SiMe2, 1,4-phenylene, 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,3-cyclopentylene or 1,3-cyclobutylene, provided that O and S atoms are non adjacent, and/or (b) one of more H atoms replaced by F, Cl, Br or OR3 or by a gp. of the following formula: Q = Cl, F, CN or Me; R2 = H, or 1-20C alkyl which may have (a) one or more CH2 gps. replaced by O, S, CO, CH=CH, ethynylene, cyclopropylene, SiMe2, 1,4-phenylene, 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,3-cyclopentylene, 1,3-cyclobutylene or 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl, provided that O and S atoms are non-adjacent, and/or (b) one of more H atoms replaced by F,Cl, Br or OR3; R3 = H or 1-6C alkyl; R4-R6 = H, or 1-16C alkyl with may have 1-2 CH2 gps. replaced by O and/or CH=CH, provided that O atoms are non-adjacent, or R4+R5 may form a (CH2)4 or (CH2)5 gp. when bonded to an oxirane, dioxolane, tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydropyran, butyrolactone or valerolactone ring; A1 = 1,4=phenylene (opt. substd. by 1-3 F atoms), 1,4-cyclohexylene, pyridine-2,5-diyl, 6-fluoropyridine-2,5-diyl, pyrimidine-2,5-diyl or 1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-diyl; M1 = a bond, CH2CH2, ethynylene, OCO, COO, OCH2, CH2O or OCOO; m = 0 or 1; A = a ring of the following formulae: C = a ring of the following formulae: D = a ring of the following formulae: B1 and B2 = CH=CH, CH=N, N=CH, CH2CH2, CH2O, OCH2, OCO or COO; k and n = 0 or 1, provided that k+n = 1). |
