More selective and efficient nickel hydrotreating catalysts are catalysts that contain more than about 60% of their nickel content on the peripheral surface of porous supports, such as extruded alumina, which can be obtained by spraying a dispersed nickel solution compound onto the support and drying it at a temperature in the range from 200 to 600 ° C. When used, for example, to remove acetylene compounds from butadiene streams, higher recovery of the desired butadiene is obtained with lower acetylene content and lower heavy polymer deposition than was possible with known catalysts. |
