abstract The patent describes a method for compacting sand in a subterranean formation. Sand in unconsolidated subterranean formations causes difficulties in oil recovery, which can be overcome by using a method of compacting sand in a subterranean formation, including: (i) contacting said sand in the first area in the presence of water with a suspension in a liquid medium of cement with an average particle size of less than 10 μm in order to obtain in said medium a mixture consisting of sand, water and some cement, and a residue containing the rest of the cement, (ii) preferably separating from said area the above residue from said mixture, (iii) which cures to obtain a permeable cemented sand.
