abstract The electrode (3, 20) for use in the electrolysis process for the production of aluminum contains a body of calcined carbon-containing material connected to an electric current lead (1, 21). The conductor is embedded in a recess in the carbon-containing body of the electrode. The recess is wider than the conductor, and is filled with electrically conductive material. The electrically conductive material contains conductive particles (4, 4 '). The method relates to the manufacture of such an electrode and to the restoration of the electrically conductive material after the electrode wears out.
