abstract The invention provides methods for reducing the content of amidolytic activity and activity against complement (APC) in a composition containing an immunoglobulin by using cation-exchange chromatography. In a specific embodiment of the invention, methods are provided for reducing the content of factor XI and / or factor XIa and / or APC in a composition comprising an immunoglobulin by collecting an early fraction of the eluate of a cation-exchange column. The invention also provides a composition comprising an immunoglobulin that contains reduced levels of amidolytic activity, factor XI and / or factor XIa and / or APC.
