abstract |
Tertiary N-vinylamides can be polymerized - optionally together with other monomers - in the presence of aliphatic hydrocarbons with the aid of free-radical initiators. The polymerization is usually carried out at a temperature of 0 to 150 ° C. An initiator mixture which is partly insoluble in the hydrocarbon and partly soluble in it is used to reduce the residual monomer content. It is advisable to carry out the polymerization under an inert gas atmosphere. The polymer thus obtained, which is obtained as a powder or in granular form, is suitable as a protective colloid and dispersant for emulsion or suspension polymerizations. |
