abstract A magnetic probe (SON) has at least one winding (W; W1, W21), the inductance (LS) of which determines the frequency of an oscillator circuit (OSZ) .The winding (W) of the probe inductance (LS) excited with a rectangular voltage (UG) causes one alternating positive and negative direct current magnetization (IVO), which becomes larger and sometimes smaller depending on an external magnetic field, the resulting change in inductance (Δ LS) results in an alternately higher and lower frequency (f1 and f2) of the oscillator (OSZ). The field strength is determined and displayed (ANZ) from the difference (2 Δf) of the measured frequencies (f1, f2.) The field direction is determined from the strength of two mutually perpendicular field components with frequency measuring devices (FME1 and FME2) and a computer (MC) and displayed.
