During the oxidation of reactive aromatics by means of molecular oxygen, in solution of carboxylic acid and in the presence of a catalyst, itself consists of a cobalt compound with possible addition of a manganese compound and of a bromine compound, suitable as a co-catalyst, inactivation of the catalytic system easily occurs. This inactivation of the catalytic system can be avoided by treating the catalyst, after each reaction cycle, using a strong oxidizing agent, reactivating the catalyst; the water produced by the reaction will be removed by distillation. |
