abstract | To remove ice and snow from a roadway (1) having a carbon-based surface (4), a 915M-Hz microwave generator with a waveguide (8) is passed over the ice ( 13) closely followed by a scraper blade (10). Concrete pavements (1) are first coated with a reflective surface coating (2), thermal insulation (3) and carbon (4) or other carbonaceous coating, while asphalt pavements do not do not need such a coating. The microwaves at this frequency pass through the ice (13), the carbonaceous upper surface (4) absorbs the microwaves and is thus heated, and the interface (12) between the ice (13), thus detached , is removed by the scraper without damaging the pavement (1). |
