| abstract |
A peptide precursor of the ACV (aminoadipylncysteinylvaline) type, in which the valine moiety may be nreplaced by any readily available amino acid may be nconverted into a cephalosporin of the type n nwhere R₁ is H, lower alkyl or functionalized carboxylic group nand R₂ is H or lower alkyl, by reacting the precursor with nnovel cyclase, epimerase and ring expansion enzymes nisolated from a cell-free extract of a prokaryotic organism nsuch as Streptomyces clavuligerus. The three novel enzymes nmay be immobilized separately or together on a suitable nsupport medium and the conversion may be carried out in a ncontinuous mode. |
