abstract In an AC plasma planar panel, display cells (DS) are formed by the intersection of conductors in rows (103) and columns (102) which are embedded at lower and upper levels respectively in a layer single dielectric (101) near an ionizable display gas. A luminescence suppressing pad (106), embedded in the upper level, is disposed near each display cell. The luminescence suppressor pad is capacitively biased by the row and column electrodes at a voltage that prevents unwanted ionization of the display gas between adjacent display cells.
