Hal für Halogen, E für gegebenenfalls substituiertes Phenyl, Thienyl oder Furyl und Y für einen über Stickstoff, Sauerstoff oder Schwefel gebundenen Rest stehen, nvermögen als Gegenmittel oder "Safener" Kulturpflanzen vor der phytotoxischen Wirkung von Herbiziden zu schützen. Als Kulturpflanzen kommen vorzugsweise Sorghum, Getteide, Mais, Reis und Soja in Frage, als Herbizide Chloracetanilide oder auch andere herbizid wirksame Stoffe.2-aryl-4,6-dihalopyrimidines of the formula I. wherein Hal for halogen, E for optionally substituted phenyl, thienyl or furyl and Y represents a radical bound via nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur, are able to protect crops as antidotes or "safeners" against the phytotoxic effects of herbicides.
