New oil components for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications consist of reaction products of epoxidized triglyceride oils with monohydric alcohols with 1 - 4 carbon atoms. The oil components are prepared by reacting an epoxidized triglyceride oil with 4-8% by weight of epoxy oxygen, preferably an epoxidized soybean oil with 6-7% by weight epoxy oxygen in the presence of an acidic catalyst with a monohydric C 1 -C 4 alcohol Methanol, in excess at the boiling point of the alcohol until the oxirane rings are completely opened, the catalyst is neutralized and the excess alcohol is distilled off. The new oil components are particularly suitable for the production of cosmetic stick preparations. |
