N-Monosubstituted formamides such as monomethylformamide are converted to isocyanates such as isocyanate by contacting with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst formed of a particulate, hard nonporous refractory support on which silver or a silver/gold alloy is deposited by physical vapor deposition, e.g. by sputtering or ion plating. |
