Apparatus for affixing a prosthesis to bone |
abstract |
Method and device for fixing a prosthesis on a bone, making it possible to transfer the forces from the prosthesis to the hard part of the bone in a manner corresponding to the force transfers occurring in natural bone. The device comprises a body (18) having an external surface of which at least one part has a contour allowing it to adapt to a part of the internal surface of the hard part of the bone on which the prosthesis is fixed, so that in the region of the corresponding parts, a considerable fraction of the hard part of the bone is in close proximity or in contact with the external surface of the body, this external surface (22) in the corresponding region being textured (46) to increase the engagement by friction of the surface with the hard part of the bone. In certain preferred embodiments, a prosthesis composed of a material containing titanium and having high flexibility and overall resistance comprises a part having a coating of porous metal in which the bone can grow. |
