titleOfInvention Control rod for nuclear reactors
abstract Control rod for nuclear reactors with a number of elongate absorber plates, each of which is provided with a plurality of channels (18) which extend essentially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the absorber plate, contain powdered boron carbide or other powdered absorber material (20) which emits and swells when irradiated, and by the environment of the control rod are hermetically separated by a side part (30) which is arranged along one of the long narrow side walls (31) of the absorber plate and a gas-tight side wall (31) and a space arranged on the inside of this side wall and running in the longitudinal direction of the absorber plate (32) includes which space (32) is in open communication with the individual channels in the absorber plate and allows gas flow between the channels. According to the invention, a body (21) made of hafnium or other metallic absorber material is arranged between the powdery absorber material and the side part in a part of the channels (18b) and is dimensioned such that a gap (36 ) is formed, which allows a gas flow, but is smaller than at least the majority of the grains of the powdery absorber material. It is achieved by the invention that on the one hand a different gas pressure in the individual channels can compensate, but on the other hand practically no powdered absorber material can leave the channels.
