titleOfInvention | Process for oxidizing 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene |
abstract | A process for producing 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene from 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene, which comprises oxidizing 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene using a specific proportion of a basic compound to thereby hydroxylate or perhydroxylate 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene with a high conversion, and decomposing the resulting intermediate with an acid in the presence of hydrogen peroxide to produce 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene in a high yield. The yield of 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene can be further improved by conducting purification, dehydration or addition of acetone before acid decomposition of the reaction mixture containing the intermediate. 2,6-Dihydroxynaphthalene may be recovered as 2,6-diacetoxynaphthalene by reacting with glacial acetic acid. |
