abstract In a method for reading optical information pixel by pixel, image sensor elements connected in parallel to a common readout circuit are successively exposed to the pixel information to be detected by them, each time the photo currents of all image sensor elements are detected as a sum signal by means of the readout circuit. The sum signal contains the light current of the respectively exposed image sensor element as the useful signal component and the sum of all dark currents of the remaining unexposed image sensor elements as the noise component, so that the signal / noise ratio becomes worse with an increasing number of image sensor elements. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio, photodiodes (23) are used as image sensor elements and the open circuit voltage which they share is detected as an evaluable signal by means of the read-out circuit (25).
