Polyester and polyester carbonates of the formula in which R¹ to R⁴, o to r, n, a and b and X¹ and Y¹ have the meaning given in the description, can by the phase interface condensation method from the underlying bisphenols of the formula the aromatic dicarboxylic acid chlorides of the formula and phosgene can be produced.n n n The new polyesters and polyester carbonates combine excellent heat resistance and light fastness. They can be used both as thermoplastic materials alone or as polymer alloy components, and as light (UV) stabilizers or as light (UV) stabilizing coatings.
