A process for the preparation of ethylene polymers by homopolymerisation of ethylene or copolymerisation of ethylene with ethylene-copolymerisable compounds in a continuous, tubular polymerisation system at pressures of from 500 to 5000 bar and temperatures of from 40 to 450 DEG C in the presence of polymerisation initiators which decompose to form free radicals, in which ethylene, optionally mixed with comonomer, oxygen and/or regulator, and an initiator, at least at a second point after the inlet point, are fed to the polymerisation system at its inlet point, the initiator being introduced into the polymerisation system via an injection finger. |
