An optical data recording medium being suitable for recording signals which can be played back with a CD player or a VD player and having excellent environmental resistance and high reliability, which has a recording layer having an alloy portion composed mainly of at least one element selected from the [Au, Ag, Al and Cu] element group at least in part in the film surface direction and being formed on a signal surface of a substrate directly or through a thermal deformation layer composed from a substance having lower heat resistance than the substrate, and data is written once by scanning light energy in a pulse form along recorded track to cause a thermal change such as a change in the atomic arrangement, a fusion-induced mixing phenomenon, a deformation, formation of a cavity, etc., in part of the recording layer which has been scanned with high-level light energy, with or without a deformation of the substrate or the thermal deformation layer |
