abstract The invention provides a ceramic filter of improved uniformity. The filter is made by coating a destructible pattern with a ceramic slurry, firing the coated pattern to remove the pattern and consolidate the ceramic, the pattern being in the form of a multiplicity of layers (10, 11) which are adhered together to form cavities (14) and channels (15) of uniform shape and distribution, adjacent layers being offset to provide changes of direction for fluid flowing through the filter.
