A process for producing formed active coke to be used in an apparatus for treating various stack gases and the like, which comprises reacting a dry formed active coke produced from coal with SO₃ at 100 to 300°C, followed by the heat treatment in an inert atmosphere at 300 to 600°C. The coke is suitably used in a moving-bed desulfurization and denitrification apparatus, because it is excellent in not only the resistances to pressure, wearing and impact but also desulfurization and denitrification performances. Since it has, in particular, a high denitrification performance, it is suitable for the denitrification of stack gas generated from a fluidized-bed boiler or cogenerated stack gas containing a reduced amount of SOx. |
