The present invention relates to new sulfuric acid esters of sugar alcohols and sugar alcohol-like compounds of the general formula wherein A is a residue of a sugar alcohol or a derivative thereof reduced by the 1-hydroxyl group, or the tris (hydroxymethyl) methyl residue, at least one hydroxyl group of the residue A being esterified with sulfuric acid; X -NR¹CO-; -NHCONH-; -NHCSNH-; -NHSO₂-, -NR¹- or -O-; m and p are independently 0 or 1; R¹ is hydrogen, lower alkyl or hydroxy lower alkyl; and B is a conjugated multiple bond system; and salts thereof.n n n The invention further relates to pharmaceutical preparations containing a compound of general formula I or a salt thereof; the use of the compounds of the general formula I and their salts as medicaments, in particular for the treatment and / or prophylaxis of arteriosclerotic changes in the vascular wall, e.g. to prevent restenosis after coronary or peripheral angioplasty or after bypass surgery; for the production of remedies for the indicated indications; and a process for the preparation of the compounds of general formula I and their salts. |
