Pure, flowable alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts are obtained from the filter cakes obtained in the production of polyether polyol by neutralizing the alkaline polyether polyol reaction mixture with inorganic acids by a process which is characterized in that the following process steps are carried out in succession: a) the filter cakes are extracted or washed with an organic solvent, b) the extracted or washed filter cakes are dissolved or dissolved in water or in a saturated alkali or alkaline earth metal salt solution, c) cooling crystallization or evaporative crystallization is carried out and the crystallization product is separated off, d) the isolated crystalline alkali or alkaline earth salt is dried.
