Polymers (A) contg. aspartyl repeat units of formula (I)and opt. (II), and their salts are new; R<1> = or -Y-SO3H; R<2> = H, alkyl, alkoxy or halogen; Y = alk(en)yl or alkynyl; and n = 1-2, with the provision that if R<1> is -CH2-CH2-SO3H or a salt thereof then the mol. ratio of (II) to (I) is greater than 1. Also claimed are (i) compsns. for water treatment or washing agent additives contg. (A), (ii) washing agents contg. 0.1-3.0 wt.% (A); (iii) water treatment agents contg. 0.1300 ml/g (A), (iv) use of (A) as water treatment agents or washing agent, (v) prepn. of (A) by reacting polysuccinimide with an amine of formula R<1>NH2, and (vi) synergistic mixts. of (A) with aminosulphonic acids of formula (III) or (IV); |
