abstract | A method for compacting radioactive metal waste including a zirconium alloy, the radioactive metal waste being contained in a capsule C, comprises the steps of: transporting the capsule C in a processing chamber 31 whose volume is slightly larger than the volume of the capsule C; drawing the air from the processing chamber 31 in a closed state to put the processing chamber 31 in a vacuum state; compressing and compacting the capsule C by reducing the volume of the processing chamber 31 in the vacuum state; and transporting out the compacted capsule C from the processing chamber 31. An apparatus has an arrangement to carry out the compacting method. |
