abstract A water-soluble polymer having a gelation resistance of not more than 0.16 and another water-soluble polymer having a capability of trapping calcium ions of not less than 40 mg CaCO3/g and a gelation resistance of not more than 1.5, both prepared by polymerizing a polyester compound with a monomer component containing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. These polymers are prepared by reacting a polyester compound with a monomer component comprising an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid monomer and are used as a detergent builder and the like.
