A range of benzamide analogues consisting of 3-oxybenzamidenderivatives are disclosed which can act asnpotent inhibitors of the DNA repair enzyme poly(ADP-ribose)npolymerase or PARP enzyme (EC 2.4.2.30), and which therebyncan provide useful therapeutic compounds for use innconjunction with DNA-damaging cytotoxic drugs ornradiotherapy to potentiate the effects of the latter. Thencompounds disclosed include certain benzoxazole-4-carboxamidencompounds and in general they comprisencompounds having the general structural formula In nor pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, ncharacterised in that n Y and X together form a bridge -Y-X- that representsnthe groupingn n where R 5 is H, alkyl or annoptionally substituted aralkyl ornaryl group. |
