A composite computer housing (12) for protecting electronic components against shock and vibration. The housing (12) has a midplane (18) with divides the housing (12) into a chassis section (40) and a mainboard section (38). The chassis section (40) holds hard disk drives. The mainboard section (38) holds a mainboard, cards, a processor unit and other electronic components. A composite side cover assembly (70), having multiple layers, encloses the housing (12) and provides a shell to inhibit flexion of the housing. The side cover assembly (70) presses against any number of the electronic components in the mainboard section (38) to minimize vibration of these components and to enable the electronic components to provide intemal support to the housing (12). <IMAGE> |
