A protein-containing feedstuff is produced by subjecting a material that contains vegetablenprotein to a heat-treatment; washing the resultant material one or more times, andnpreferably in a counter-current manner, with water, generally at pH of less than 7 and at antemperature of from 5 to 50°C; and subjecting the washed material to a farther heat-treatment,npreferably a thermal drying step in which the protein-containing material maynbe dried to a moisture content of 12% by weight or less. Antinutritional factors such asnmono-, di- and oligosaccharides may thereby be removed whilst retaining importantnnutrients such as isoflavones. Phytase may be added to the washwater in order to reducenthe content of phytate in the product. Suitable starting materials include defatted soy flour, nsoy meal and texturized soy products. The feedstuff is suitable for the feeding not only ofnfish or crustaceans in aquaculture, but also of other livestock, for example piglets. Thenproduct may also be used for human nutrition. |
