titleOfInvention | Multichannel apparatus for epidural spinal cord stimulation |
abstract | Apparatus for multi-channel transverse epiduralnspinal cord stimulation uses a multi-channel pulsengenerator driving a plurality of electrodes mounted nearnthe distal end of the lead. These electrodes arenmounted in one or more lines, generally perpendicular tonthe lead axis, and have a planar surface along onensurface of the lead. The lead is implanted adjacent tonspinal cord dura mater with the electrodes transversenand facing the spinal cord. Pulses generated by thenpulse generator for each channel are normally of equalnamplitude and of equal duration, however, the pulsengenerator is arranged such that pulses for each channelnare alternate in time, can selectably be of unequalnamplitude, or both. the changes in pulse timing andnmagnitude permit shifting the electrical stimulationnfield and the resulting paresthesia pattern afterninstallation to accommodate improper lead placement ornpostoperative dislocation and to minimize unwanted motornresponses. |
