An organic electroluminescent device comprises annorganic layer which has a luminescent region and whichncontains a distyryl compound represented by the followingngeneral formula (1). n Chemical formula 10 n nwherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are, respectively, groups whichnmay be the same or different and independently represent annaryl group of the following general formula (2),n nwherein R 19 , R 20 , R 21 , R 22 and R 23 are, respectively, groupsnwhich may be the same or different and represent a hydrogennatom provided that at least one of them a saturated ornunsaturated alkoxyl group, an alkyl group, an amino groupnor an alkylamino group, and R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , R 8 , R 9 , R 10 , R 11 , R 12 ,nR 13 , R 14 , R 15 , R 16 , R 17 and R 18 are groups which may be the samenor different provided that at least one of them representsna cyano group, a nitro group or a halogen atom. |
