| abstract | Disclosed is a method and apparatus fornsimplifying the design effort of creating andndebugging a JTAPI (JAVA™ Telephony applicationnprogramming interface) implementation and thenresulting apparatus. The JTAPI is constructed in anmultilayer fashion. In one embodiment, a genericnportion or layer comprises a large percentage of thenrequired source code and includes a standardized APInto an adapter layer which typically comprises anminority portion of total required code for theninterface. The generic layer, provides services andnmechanisms needed by all JTAPI compliant applications.nIts job is to maintain the call model visible tonapplications through the JTAPI interface, and tondispatch application events upon state changes. Thengeneric layer passes call control requests to thenlower level adapter layer, which is responsible fornexecuting the low-level call control requests andnreporting back to the generic layer the changes in thenstate of the telephony hardware. Many of the classesnof objects in the generic layer can be created innsubclasses of the adapter layer. |
