Method and apparatus for forming green ceramic arc tubes using injection molding |
abstract |
A method and apparatus for forming a green ceramic arc tube for a metalnhalide lamp. A feedstock material (54) comprising ceramic and a binder isnprepared and injected into an inner cavity (18) of a mold (12). The innerncavity 18 of the mold (12) has an inner surface (20) that corresponds to andesired outer shape of a body of the ceramic arc tube. A fluid (34) isninjected into the feedstock material (54) to create a cavity (66) in thenfeedstock material (54) and to force the feedstock material (54) intoncontact with the inner surface (20) of the mold (12). The mold (12) is thennseparated from the formed ceramic green arc tube. |
