A novel compound represented by the general formula (I),nand a nematic liquid crystal composition incorporating thensame.n nA compound represented by the general formula (I) can benproduced industrially extremely easily, as shown in thenexamples, displays superior compatibility with current generalnpurpose host liquid crystals as a nematic phase, and alsonshows little crystal precipitation at low temperatures.nMoreover, by addition of a small amount of such a compound tona host liquid crystal, the liquid crystal temperature range atnlow temperatures can be effectively widened without anynsignificant worsening of the various characteristics of thenliquid crystal material. Consequently, a compound of thenpresent invention is an extremely useful liquid crystalnmaterial which is suitable for various liquid crystal displaynelements which require a broad operating temperature range. |
