A microchip laboratory system (10) and method provide fluidic manipulationsnfor a variety of applications, including sample injection for microchip chemicalnseparations. The microchip is fabricated using standard photolithographic proceduresnand chemical wet etching, with the substrate and cover plate joined using direct bonding.nCapillary electrophoresis and electrochomatography are performed in channels (26, 28,n30, 32, 34, 36, 38) formed in the substrate. Analytes are loaded into a four-waynintersection of channels by electrokinetically pumping the analyte through thenintersection (40), followed by a switching of the potentials to force an analyte plug intonthe separation channel (34). |
