Liquid crystal aligning agent for vertical alignment, alignment layer for liquid crystal, and liquid crystal displays made by using the same |
abstract |
A liquid crystal alignment treating agent fornvertical alignment to be used in a liquid crystal displayndevice which has an electrode on at least one side ofnsubstrates and is driven by applying a voltage to anvertically aligned liquid crystal, characterized byncontaining a polyamic acid which is represented by thenfollowing formula (I) and exhibits a reduced viscosity ofnfrom 0.05 to 5.0 dl/g (in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone at 30°Cnat a concentration of 0.5 g/dl) or a polyimide obtainednby cyclodehydration thereof:n nwherein R 1 represents a tetravalent organic group, atnleast 20 mol% of which has a fused alicyclic structurencomposed of two to five rings, and all of the carbonylngroups are directly bonded to the alicyclic structure andnthat any two carbonyl groups are not bonded to adjacentncarbon atoms of the alicyclic structure; R 2 is a bivalentnorganic group, from 20 to 100 mol% of which has in thenside-chain structure at least one structural unitnselected from the group consisting of C 5-20 long-chain nalkyl, C 5-20 fluoroalkyl, alicyclic structures andnaromatic ring structures; and L is a positive integer. |
