abstract | Chromogenic enzyme substrates that are 7-amino-phenoxazine derivatives (I) are new. Chromogenic enzyme substrates that are 7-amino-phenoxazine derivatives of formula (I). [Image] R 1and R 2hydrogen, 1-6C alkyl, halo, COOR', CONR'R'', sulfo, or sulfonamide, or together they complete a naphthalene ring or optionally substituted coumarin of formula (a); R 3and R 4hydrogen, halo, COOR', CONR'R'', sulfo or sulfonamide, or together complete a naphthalene ring of formula (b); R 5and R 6hydrogen, halo, COOR', CONR'R'' or 1-6C alkyl; R 7and R 8hydrogen, 1-6C alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, carboxyalkyl, carboxy or sulfo, or together complete a 4-6C ring; R 9hydrogen, bromo, chloro, benzoyl, carboxy or sulfo, but must be other than hydrogen if R 5is hydrogen; R' and R'' : hydrogen or 1-6C alkyl or together they complete a heterocycle containing one or more heteroatoms; A : at least one amino acid; X : blocking group or is absent; Provided that at least one of R 1/R 2and R 3/R 4forms a phenyl or optionally substituted coumarin ring, and when R 1/R 2form a coumarin ring, then R 3and R 4do not form a phenyl ring; R 6is hydrogen when R 1/R 2form a ring and is halo when R 1/R 2and R 3/R 4each form a benzene ring.
