titleOfInvention A networked personal video recording system
abstract A networked personal video recording ('PVR') system (310) couples a plurality of clients (350) to one or more PVR media servers (330) over a network (340). One or more PVR media servers (330) include television tuners (924) to tune television signals. A storage medium buffers (230) the television signals to implement PVR functionality. For example, the PVR media server(330) records television programs for clients. Clients are assigned to television tuners (924), and the clients display television programs received at the assigned tuner. The network(340) transfers the buffered television signals to the clients.
