abstract Suggested is a process for obtaining natural antioxidants, which is characterised in that n(a) green algae selected from the group of strains consisting of Chlorella sorokiniana (SAG 211-32), Neospongiococcum gelatinosum (SAG 64.80) and Chlorococcum citriforme (SAG 62.80) are cultivated to produce lutein until a desired content of the antioxidant is reached, n(b) the algae are harvested and used as a product and/or n(c) the content of lutein is separated off from the remaining biomass.
