abstract A humidifier (10) for use with tobacco products comprises a first container (12) permeable to the passage of water vapour and configured to enclose a moisture-releasing element (14) that emits water vapour, a second container (18) arranged for thermal energy transfer to the moisture-releasing element, the second container having sealed therein a supercoolable salt hydrate solution and an activating device (22) actuable to initiate crystallisation of the salt hydrate solution, thereby releasing heat, and supplying it to the moisture-releasing element. The heating increases 'the rate of evaporation from the moisture-releasing element, thereby quickly providing water vapour to hydrate tobacco.
