The present invention discloses a composition for alleviating lung diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, using the extracts of Paliurus ramosissimus (Lour.) Poir, Rosa davurica Pall., Picrasma quassioides, Camellia sinensis, Chrysosplenium grayanum, Reynoutria japonica, Pseudocydonia sinensis, Hydrangea serrata, and/or Euonymus alatus. The extracts of Paliurus ramosissimus (Lour.) Poir, Rosa davurica Pall., Picrasma quassioides, Camellia sinensis, Chrysosplenium grayanum, Reynoutria japonica, Pseudocydonia sinensis, Hydrangea serrata, and/or Euonymus alatus have the activities of inhibiting the Netosis activation of neutrophil extracellular traps induced by phorbol myristate acetate (PMA), inhibiting the expression of IL-8, an inflammatory cytokine by CSE of NCI-H292 cells, a bronchial epithelial cell line producing mucus, and inhibiting the expression of MIP-2, an inflammatory cytokine of alveolar macrophages MH-S cells activated by CES and LPS (lipopolysaccaride). In addition, the extracts have the activities of inhibiting lung tissue damage in the mouse model of CSE and PPE induced respiratory disease, inhibiting immune cell infiltration of total cell, macrophages, lymphocytes, eosinophils, and neutrophils in BALF, and inhibiting the secretion of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in BALF and lung tissue. |
