abstract The present invention relates to a process for the production of biogas and for the treatment of at least one input comprising organic matter, in particular sludge from a treatment plant and/or the recoverable organic fraction of household waste, comprising the following steps : - anaerobically digesting at least one input comprising organic matter, in particular sewage plant sludge and/or the recoverable organic fraction of household waste, to produce methane and a digestate; - perform hydrothermal carbonization of the digestate to produce hydrochar and process water; characterized in that: in an additional step, methane is generated from the gasification of the hydrochar.
