titleOfInvention Method to contain a chemical discharge
abstract A method for containing a chemical discharge, comprising: distributing a binding agent in a receptacle containing a hazardous material in a liquid state after the appearance of at least one predetermined phenomenon that increases the risk of accidental discharge or leakage of the hazardous material from the receptacle; and contacting the hazardous material with the binding agent to form a composition comprising at least a part of the hazardous material and at least a part of the binding agent and having at least one property selected from a solid or semi-solid state, a viscosity greater than the viscosity of the hazardous material, a vapor pressure less than the vapor pressure of the hazardous material and a surface tension greater than the surface tension of the hazardous material, characterized in that said hazardous material is anhydrous or aqueous hydrogen fluoride, and said binding agent is selected from crosslinked copolymers of polyacrylate-polyacrylamide, particularly those derived from salts of polyacrylic acid; and mixtures of cross-linked copolymer of polyacrylamide polyacrylate and at least one of polyacrylamide, polyalkylacrylamide, polyacrylate, poly (alkyl acrylate) and polyacrylic acid salts.
