A process for the preparation of an N-α-amino-hydroxyphenylacetyl-β-lactam antibiotic or an N-α-amino-phenylacetyl-β-lactam antibiotic, comprising contacting a hydroxyphenylglycyl-cysteinyl valine tripeptide (HpgCV ) or a phenylglycyl-cysteinyl-valine tripeptide (PgCV) with an IPNS to effect the formation of the N-α-amino-hydroxyphenylacetyl-β-lactam antibiotic or the N-α-amino-phenylacetyl-β-lactam antibiotic, and wherein the IPNS has an identity degree of at least 50% with the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 and, when aligned with the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1, contains an arginine, lysine or histidine in position 185 and, optionally, a modification in at least one of positions 91, 104, 183, 190, 321, 324, 325, 331, using the numbering of positions of SEQ ID NO: 1 |
