titleOfInvention Determination of partial filling in electrochemical strips
abstract A method for detecting partial filling in an electrochemical test strip having electrodes and a liquid sample disposed between the electrodes, the method comprises the steps of: (a) introducing the sample into an electrochemical test strip; (b) apply a constant potential difference, Vap, between the electrodes of the test strip to which the sample was introduced, performing said potential application at least a first time, and optionally a second time; (c) turn off the potential applied at the exchange time after the first potential application and before any second potential application to create an open circuit that forces the current to be zero; (d) measure the current between the electrodes, where the measured current is representative of the current observed between the electrodes just before the exchange time or an extrapolated value of this current at a time of measurement, tmed, assuming that the applied potential does not it went out; (e) measure a voltage change after the applied potential was turned off, and the determination of the capacitance of the double layer of the test strip from the measured current and the measured voltage change; and (f) comparing the capacitance of the determined double layer with a reference value, where a capacitance of the double layer less than the reference value is an indication that the liquid sample covers a part of the electrodes and that the Electrochemical test strip is only partially filled.
