A formulation comprising an exendin-4 or an analog thereof for use in a method of lowering total cholesterol levels, LDL cholesterol levels, or triglyceride levels in a patient in need thereof, the method comprising : identify a patient who needs a reduction in total cholesterol levels, LDL cholesterol levels, or triglyceride levels; and administer to the patient a pharmaceutical formulation once a week in an amount sufficient to maintain a steady state of the geometric mean plasma concentration of exendin-4 or an analog thereof from 145 pg / ml to 700 pg / ml for reducing total cholesterol levels, LDL cholesterol levels, or triglyceride levels in the patient, where said analog has 10 or fewer amino acid substitutions, additions or deletions compared to exendin-4, and where the pharmaceutical formulation is administered by subcutaneous injection. |
