abstract A cathode assembly (20), comprising: a) an electrically conductive suspension bar (24); b) a deposition plate (22) fixed by welding (28) along an end superior to the suspension bar (24) to define a joint, the suspension bar (24) and the deposition plate ( 22) made of different metals; c) a protective cover (40) having side edges and surrounding the suspension bar (24) and a part of the upper end of the deposition plate (22) so as to substantially confine the gasket and leave the parts of end of the suspension bar (24) exposed outside the side edges of the protective cover; and d) at each end of the protective cover (40), a corrosion resistant material positioned to form a substantially continuous seal between the protective cover (40) and the suspension bar (24), in which the Corrosion resistant material is resistant to corrosion by liquids used in an electrolytic bath and a cathode wash to which the cathode assembly (20) is exposed during use.
