A method, comprising: flowing in a channel (5) a series of fluid plugs comprising a first fluid plug (10-1) comprising a first fluid (10-1A), a second fluid plug (20 -2) comprising a second fluid (20-2A), and a third fluid plug (10-3) comprising a third fluid (10-3A), where the first fluid plug (10-1) has a first volume, where the second fluid plug (20-2) is placed between the first (10-1) and third (10-3) fluid plug, and where the second fluid (20-2A) is immiscible with each of the first (10-1A) and third (10-3A) fluids; reduce the first volume of the first fluid plug (10-1) by at least 50% by depositing at least a portion of the first fluid (10-1A) on a channel wall (5) during the step of fluid and the combination of at least a portion of the first fluid (10-1A) deposited on the channel wall (5) in the third fluid plug (10-3) in order to mix at least portions of the first (10- 1A) and third (10-3A) fluids; and after the combining step, flow into the channel (5) the first fluid plug (10-1), the second fluid plug (20-2), and the third fluid plug (10-3) which it comprises the third fluid (10-3A) and the at least a portion of the first fluid (10-1A). |
